Does anyone else feel like this year flew by? I don’t know if it was the addition of our fourth child, or our busy calendar but I still can’t believe that it’s almost 2019. It was a FANTASTIC year for Ashley Skeie Events. We laughed, we cried, and we witnessed some of the sweetest weddings to date.
Let’s start with our first wedding of the year – it was an actual blizzard on their wedding day. One of those things you pray never happens but you know what, the pictures are INCREDIBLE. The wedding party had no problem standing out in the winter wonderland and our Bride & Groom were troopers the whole day!
Our next couple Madison and Tony they were the sweetest. I’ve never met a more laid back couple. They got married in his hometown church which looked like it could have come right out of a Hallmark movie- small and intimate. They had Boughart donuts at the reception and I can’t even explain to you how amazing their donuts are. I took one for the road
Brittany wasn’t a planning client but we did get create beautiful floral for her! She was so kind and sweet and with her and my husband both being teachers we connected very well! They had a perfect spring day at Almquist Farms!
Our first “Summer” wedding of the year was Karina & Phillip. Karina and I grew up together and I was so excited not only to plan their wedding but to be able to spend time with their families again. It rained. ALLL day. Which would be the format of almost every wedding to follow. It was not ideal but like true champs they just went with it. They still took pictures outside, still said I do, and danced the night away. The night also ended with cotton candy so who could be mad about that?
Our next wedding brought us out to Wisconsin. It was a down home celebration as Stephanie and Brady said their I do’s in their own backyard. The reception then moved on to the local county fairgrounds which actually was an amazing location for their large guest list. Did I mention they had a cheese curd bar? Yes, you read that right. CHEESE CURDS. When in Wisconsin! They both were so sweet and we felt like family all day!
We love being at Camrose Hill in Stillwater and we were so excited to be back for Maren & Even! The first thing I remember about their wedding was her dress. It was a very NON traditional dress that she found on a whim. It was stunning and looked like it was made just for her.
Another floral client of ours was Ashley- she was getting married in Lutsen and let me say- her wedding was stunning. We didn’t see it in person but we got to re-live it through pictures!
Every year we get so excited to be able to work at new venues in the twin cities. This year we got to be at the Machine Shop. This wedding will go down in history as the best Mother of the Groom speech. Plus, if you’ve never been around an Italian family you NEED to stat. I wanted to be adopted by them because they made us all feel so special!
What happens when two hockey players fall in love and get married? A very large bar tab –Kidding, sort of. These two knew how to party and it showed. Meeting Samie was fate and we were so fortunate to have her fall in our lap (figuratively speaking). Not only did we help plan their big day we also got to create their floral pieces as well. Give me peonies any day and I’ll be a happy camper. These pictures speak for themselves – it was a beautiful day.
Katie & Dan processed down the aisle to the Star Wars theme song- you love them already, don’t you? They were so fun and laid back and it carried through the whole wedding day!
It was a rocky road for Charlie & Emily. First, their “new” venue never got built like promised, and then their officiant backed out a month before the wedding. All was taken care of when their wedding was moved to the beautiful Lafayette club and my husband married them (he’s ordained). When my husband gets to perform a wedding ceremony we get to know our couples on an extra special level and they hold an extra special place in our hearts. Their day ended up being beautiful. Not a cloud in sight for these two love birds.
If I could pick a strong “Wedding planning talent” for Maddi it would be planning the details. This girl was incredible at thinking out what she wanted, where she wanted it, and everything was cohesive right down to the napkins. You could tell that these two were IN. LOVE. From the first look to the last dance they had stars in their eyes. The day was a refreshing breath of air. I remember it perfectly since the fall had been anything but ideal but we finally had it- SUN. The sun came out for their day and it was perfect!
When you ask the Bride & Groom what their favorite movies are and the Groom says Lion King and the Bride says the Purge- you know you have a good match. These two were the sweetest and had us laughing all day. It was more than worth the drive to round lake to celebrate with them. My favorite part was when they washed each other’s feet at the ceremony. If you remember this Fall was the worst Fall I can remember. It was FREEZING, and they said I do outside, next to a lake. IT. WAS. COLD. They persevered and washed their feet anyway and it was a very sweet moment to witness.
Proof that love can come to you at any Age – Teresa & Jim! Early on in the planning process they had mentioned that their only concern was the dancing. They only wanted to dance. They were not lying. These crazy cats could get down. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a dance floor packed from start to finish. We had a great time creating a beautiful day for them!
We don’t play favorites but we can firmly say that we saved the best for last. We can say that because Katie is one of our own, and when one of your own gets married you do all the things! This day may forever be one of my favorite weddings. The day was flawless and beautiful. We cried happy tears and danced to “I wanna dance with somebody” the song we secretly dance to at weddings in the background but this time we were front and center and it was the best moment (for me). Fun fact: Katie was my very first employee that I hired and I am so happy that we were able to execute such an amazing day for her and Alex!
Next up was Amanda & Rambo. These two were complete opposites, which in my personal opinion, is the best match. Amanda was refined and outgoing and Rambo was mostly quiet in our meetings UNTIL he hit the dance floor – then the real Rambo came out!
Our first brunch wedding was with Carrie & Andrew. The day started early but feed me bacon and pancakes and I’ll get up at any time! They had an intimate wedding followed by a delicious brunch reception at Medina Country Club
I’ve never met anyone more organized than Janine, except for her Mom, Janet. From our first initial meetings to our final meeting when I was presented with a packet of information down to the napkin fold I knew I had found my people. The day was perfect- the trees were in full bloom and it was picture perfect Spring day – even the weather couldn’t have been planned better. My favorite part of the day was the father daughter dance- they took dancing lessons and Blue Water Kings Band accompanied them- I’ve been obsessed ever since. Also, her dress is an all-time favorite!
What’s better than new clients? Repeat clients! Last September we got to celebrate with Matt & Sam and it was amazing. We were thrilled to hear that Matt’s brother, Alex, popped the questions to Courtney and were ready to work with us too! Again, it rained… and not just any rain it was a FREAKING Tsunami. But you know what? It was the best day. All of the vendors jumped in to help with whatever was needed all with smiles on their face. It was SO, SO fun! This is also where we met our now employee Brittany who was a bridesmaid and a kick ass planner now!
From my first meeting with Anne and Brian I just wanted to be their best friends. Do you ever meet people like that? That make you feel like the coolest person in the room? That’s how they made me feel. They were married on the rooftop at Abulae and the sun shined down on them! We didn’t do any planning for them but we were so honored to be able to create their floral pieces for their big day!
Camra would come in a close second to being the most organized bride we’ve ever had. She is a teacher, and it showed. The day was flawless thanks to her preparedness. My favorite take away from her wedding would have to be the centerpieces. Why you ask? Because each centerpiece was a smorgasbord of mini desserts and let’s just talk about what heaven probably looks like. Each guest was delighted to see that they had dessert waiting for them at their table and I can almost guarantee that some of them ate dessert first, but life is short, right? Fun fact: Camra is now a part of the Ashley Skeie family and will help assist with weddings this coming year!
On the very same day we got to celebrate Meghan and Kaillan. Jaycee took lead on this day and since I wasn’t actually there in person I can’t say my favorite moment but leading up to their wedding they both were so care free and their main focus was ensuring that all the guests had a great time. Looking back on their gallery I can say they achieved j
This was the year of out of town brides. Katie lives in Colorado but is from MN originally. They were married at Gale Woods Farm with goats and sheep in the background. It was a HOT day but they were ready to party no matter what!

I’ve never cried more happy tears at wedding (including my own) than I did at Jake & Paige’s wedding. I think I cry more now that I have my own daughter and seeing the relationship that Paige had with her Mom, Kay made me see what my life could be like down the road. The day was incredible. Every detail thought out and no spot was left undecorated. The father of the Bride speech left everyone in tears and the wedding party was made up of the best friends anyone could ask for. I only pray that my own kids will find a tribe like they did that supports them so well.
Our final wedding weekend of September brought us down south starting in Northfield. We had never been there before but we knew we were in for a treat as this couple was anything but traditional. They got married in an old theater and partied the night away to the Blue Water Kings band. Complete with gourmet donuts and a 10ft CD Wall for pictures the day was stunning!
Amy & Tyler- SWOON. We get excited for all of our weddings but Amy brought us to the next level. She was so happy and excited for her day to get here and we felt the joy and anticipation during the planning process. The day was so fun and we felt very lucky to be a part of their big day. The Groom, Tyler, brought us to happy tears during his speech. He was so thankful for US but we are the ones who are thankful for THEM!
